1.
The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald
Why did you like it?
I taught it for about 15 years and never tired of and continued to find new things in the novel. Now that I’m not teaching it I still find myself returning to it.

2.
East of Eden
John Steinbeck
Why did you like it?
Like Gatsby, every time I reread I find something new, some new truth about existence.

3.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
Ken Kesey
Why did you like it?
I’ve recast after teaching this book and after rereading and combing through the novel, I’ve been finding the same level of insight and new discoveries upon each reread.

4.
The Razor’s Edge
W. Somerset Maugham
Why did you like it?
The philosophical ideas presented in the book, especially a free spirit, so to speak, trying to navigate the status so of “society”

5.
The Painter
Peter Heller
Why did you like it?
A recent favorite that I found to be fun mix of literary tricks and thriller that juxtaposed traditional masculine and feminine “qualities” of art and outdoors.

Bonus
Lonsome Dove
Larry McMurtry
Why did you like it?
Seeing the cover of the miniseries in the video store growing up – what changed after reading it was the depth of character and living in the world McMurty created.
